As auto and gas prices soar, rideshare companies such as Lyft and Uber have become increasingly more popular, but are they safe? Scores of people have reported physical assaults, sexual assaults, and car accidents while either riding in a Lyft/Uber or driving for one of the rideshare companies.

According to Delaware State Police, just this week an ex-staff member of former New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, was killed by a passing car after a disagreement with his Lyft driver prompted the driver to prematurely end the ride and order him out of the vehicle in the middle of a Delaware highway.

According to the Miami Herald, in February a Florida Lyft driver was arrested for allegedly raping an intoxicated passenger he picked up at a Wynwood bar. Rather than dropping the victim off at her intended destination, the driver passed the victim’s hotel and parked his vehicle, where he got into the back seat and allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.

In June, a vicious attack by passengers on an Uber driver was caught on the driver’s dash cam video. The driver arrived at the pick-up location to find seven passengers attempting to get into her vehicle. After several minutes of arguing and passengers getting in and out of her vehicle, she gave up and agreed to take them to their destination. Within minutes, several passengers began viciously beating her to the point where she claimed she feared for her life.
